Here along the banks of a river with some trash along the sides, we received communion. This site is where it is believed Jacob wrestled with an angel...with God. Here God changed Jacob's name from Deceiver (meaning of Jacob in Hebrew) to Israel which means "blessed." Here Jacob met God face to face and was allowed to live. Here we took communion and remembered whose we are and how God has renamed each one of us as a new creation. Jim mentioned he has wanted to come to this spot for thirty years.
For all of us, it was an emotional moment. A place where we all took stones and built a place of remembrance to mark that we had been here and had received the blessing of a new name.
